How to Prepare for SSB Interview

SSB (Service Selection Board) interviews are a tough nut to crack, especially for the first time. Here are a few pointers from experienced persons on how to tackle the same.

Do not be nervous: You can ruin all your chances by being nervous at an SSB interview. In fact, it can be your number one enemy. Do not view the interview as a gargantuan ordeal but approach it with all the courage you can muster. Usually, the atmosphere of the interview is informal and relaxed.

Count on practice: As the adage goes: practice does make you perfect. It makes sense to practice the Psychological tests well in advance as you are faced with a time constraint in solving them during the SSB test schedule. It will help you learn how to manage your time more effectively. Another area to practice is speaking in fluent English. These verbal communication skills will stand you in good stead while preparing for Group Discussion and Lecturette. It also helps to communicate during the interview.

Deciding on coaching: Many candidates wonder whether to go in for coaching. The answer is if you are totally clueless about SSB interviews, you must enroll for a coaching program. At the same time, you must make sure you have enrolled in the best SSB coaching institute available to you. The faculty at the institute must be experienced and proficient at coaching for SSB and must be able to guide you properly. This is the main criterion for choosing a coaching institute.

Be positive: The main aspect of your personality that SSB test is a positive attitude. Your positive and optimistic nature must come through in the psychological tests, as well as interview and Group Tasks.

Good rapport with the group: You must have good skills of a team player. Around 7-8 tasks in the SSB test are group tasks. As such, you must have a good relationship with all members of a group. All other members of the group must like you and only then you can score well. You must be nonjudgmental and friendly with others.

Current affairs: You need to have good awareness about the world and your surroundings. For this, you need to be abreast of current affairs as that can be gleaned from newspapers and magazines. Be prepared to have viewpoints on current issues so that you can perform well in the Group Discussion, as well as Interview.

Know yourself well: Keep track of all details about yourself- your educational history, facts about your family, birthplace, locality, your hobbies, likes and dislikes.

Physical fitness: Being physically fits is a desirable attribute in an officer. Your physical fitness will also be tested in the test. A slouching, lazy personality will provide the wrong impression about the candidate. So make sure you are perky and fit in the physical domain.

Dress well: No matter what, your personality will be revealed in the way you dress. Be careful in what you wear as it will surely make a big impression. There are guidelines for both men and women in this regard.
