WBJEE 2014 - West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam (WBJEE) 2014

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam (WBJEE) is a state level common entrance exam conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam Board that allows admission to different under graduate programs in the field of engineering, medical, dental, architecture and pharmacy. The exam is valid through various universities, government colleges as well as private colleges. There will be four subjects on which the exam will be conducted; Biological Sciences, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry.   

Categories of the Examinees

The examinees will be divided into three categories on the basis of courses offered. The categories will be classified as Type M, Type E and Type C. 

Type M: Students who are seeking admission to any of the medical, dental or Pharmacy College will be categorized under the type M. The subjects for type M examinees are biological science, physics and chemistry.

Type E: For courses related to engineering, technology, architecture and pharmacy applicants fall under type E. The subjects for type E examinees are mathematics, physics and chemistry.

Type C: For applicants who want to appear both for medical and technology exam fall under this category. They will have to write an exam for all four subjects that are biochemistry, physics, chemistry and mathematics. 

Criteria for the Examination

1.       Age Limit: The candidates must be 17 years or more of age as on December 31, 2014. There is no upper limit for the exam except for the candidates who apply for marine engineering. In this case the upper limit is 25 years as on July 31, 2014.

2.       Educational Qualification:

For engineering aspirants it is essential for the candidates to pass higher secondary education (10+2) from West Bengal council of higher secondary education or an equivalent exam from a recognized council or board. The candidates must:

  •    Have individual passing marks in all subjects
  •     Physics and Mathematics have to be compulsory 
  •   Pass the overall examination with 45% (40% for SC/ST/OBC quota)
  •    Individually pass in English with minimum 30% marks

Candidates who want to opt for marine engineering should have 60% overall passing percentage and minimum 50% in English.

Candidates who want to opt for architecture course must appear for NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture).

Medical aspirants must have individual passing marks in Physics, Chemistry, biology and English and minimum 50% (40% for SC/ST/OBC quota marks when Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together.

Type of Exam: Multi-choice Questions
Negative Marking: For every incorrect answer, 33% marks will be deducted

Application Process

The application process is an online process which directs the candidate to fill the form correctly. The filled form needs to be posted to the Board Office by speed office. The conformation of the received form can be obtained at www.wbjeeb.nic.in. 

An admit card will be issued to each candidate with roll numbers and generated examination center for each candidate and a downloadable version will be uploaded on the webpage of the concerned candidate. The candidate must appear for the exam with a hard copy of the issued admit card. The admit cards will be available from April 2, 2014 at http://wbjeeb.nic.in/wbjeemapp/AdmitCard/AdmitCardInput.aspx

Syllabus

The exam is divided into four parts and there is a detailed syllabus for each subject. 

Results

The tentative dates for the results of WBJEE-2014 is June 10, 2014
